What are Bedwetting Solutions, does anyone know?...

Nneka fondly called Nikky is a 5 year old intelligent and smart child she has two other siblings who are 7 and 10. Nikky was invited for her best friends birthday party which was supposed to start with a sleepover along with many other girls, the sleepover was supposed to be the night before the party.  Nikky and her mum became very worried, they didn't know what to do as this was Nikky's first invitation to a sleep over...you see the problem here is that Nikky bed wets and her Mum was worried that she might bed wet while she's at her best friends house, so her mum had to pack some pull-ups for Nikky to avoid embarrassment for her and her little girl. This started to give Nikky's mum alot of concerns as Nikky will be going for more sleep overs and she in turn will start to invite her friends for sleep over so because of this, Nikky's mum stopped Nikky from going for sleepovers despite several invitations.

She didn't know what to do because she did not have the same experience with the older siblings the first stopped at the age of 1 and the other stopped before she was 2. It shouldn't be a surprise that a 5 year old bed wets infact American Academy of Pediatrics say 20% of 5year olds and 10% of 6 year olds are bedwetters and they grow out of it, we often hear how we in Africa sometimes attribute bedwetting to something spiritual especially in the case of an adult, this is usually a medical or mental condition especially if the person had stopped for a year or some years and then suddenly starts to bedwet all over again  doctors refer to this as a secondary enuresis but in a case with children it is usually known as primary enuresis, doctors think it is usually caused by a delay in the maturation of the mechanism that is controlling the bladder. There is really nothing to worry about infact  I want to believe that bedwetting often runs in the family and the child usually stops at the age the parent did.

That does not mean there are no ways or steps to help us stop the child from bedwetting which is a matter of concern for me, if there is anyone in the house who can tell us or give us advise on how we can stop a child from bedwetting should please share. I hear there is a method called the reward system where you give something or do something for the child on days the child stays dry, any other option? We would like to hear it...

  1. Creating and sticking to a potty/toilet routine often works. Her mum needs to dedicate some weeks to create a routine whereby she wakes the child up every 4 hours to use the toilet. If the routine is sustained for 2 weeks or more the child will adapt and get used to the toilet trips instead of letting it all go on the bed.

  2. Watching the fluid in take of the child? And as the lady stated regular n timely visits to the restrooms...
