Ohio Catholic School suspends 6-year-old for shooting an imaginary bowand arrow

A six year old boy was suspended  for three days from our Lady of Lourdes Catholic school in Westwood Ohio this week because he was caught pretending to shoot a bow and arrow during recess. The child's parents were furious and say the punishment was unacceptable but the school says they have a zero tolerance policy on threatening gestures wether real or pretend. Mathew Miele says his Son Malachi has never had any disciplinary issue before, in a post on Facebook, he wrote:
"My six year old Son took a completely imaginary bow and Arrow to school inside of his imagination  and this resulted in him being suspended."
Meeting with the principal and pastor fell on deaf ears.

"He said a teacher spotted his son while he was playing outside before reporting him to the principal. The punishment is so severe and this is hard as a parent to try to make this a teachable moment for our kid so we can move forward in a healthy manner-he added."

In a letter to parents, the schools principal Joe Crachiolo said the school has no tolerance for any real, pretend or imitated violence.

He said: recently there have been some games being played during recess time. These various games have involved students pretending to shoot other students, these games are not appropriate in a catholic school or any other school setting. It is not fun and certainly not catholic to pretend to harm another person.

Speaking further he said: He understands the perception that this is excessive but any words or actions to harm another child is simply not going to be tolerated regardless of the age.
Schools have been in the news far too often due to violence, threats and the like. This should not be happening but the reality is that times have changed.

Hmm... You mean pretend playing that we were doing in our days are no more acceptable at school?
